A Farewell to a Grumpy Old Cat

It seems that just as I was pulling out of my dehydration drama this week, Yvonne and Tom from BlogPaws, who Mom works for, noticed their 20 year old kitty wasn't eating much. She went downhill fast and today they took her to the vet. It became obvious that she wasn't going to rally, and they made that incredibly painful decision to help her lovingly and gently to the Rainbow Bridge.

Pandora, aka Grumpy Old Lady, aka Wabby Wibby, aka Baby Kitty gave and got a lot of love in her long life. She's been featured on Tom and Yvonne's blog, scratchingsandsniffings.com, for the last six years, keeping the dogs in line and the household in order.

PepiSmartDog is making all the arrangements now for her Rainbow Bridge reception.

If you're so inclined, you can light a candle for Pandora and her family here:

Mom's making me sleep with her tonight, even if I wet my man pants.

Much love to you Pandora, and to your family.

Thankful Thursday Blog Hop

Again, I find myself feeling so very grateful to have such a wonderful vet. She loves me and understands me, even though I won't let her within 30 feet of me. She sent me this on Facebook yesterday (yeah, me & my vet are FB friends), and said it made her think of me.  =^..^=

She's also super awesome, cause she's going to show Mom how to give me SubQ fluids (that's subcutaneous for you laycats), so she can give me fluids at home. I'm really dehydrated from my hyperactive thyroid, and I need a good water fix. Mom insists she can do it, though most vets, groomers and home vets I've come to know in the last few years are betting against our success. I've got $50 bucks that says we''ll get a whole pack of fluid into me in one sitting - combined with some pretty loving ear scrunches, neck rubs, and a couple different versions of the Cokie the Cat song (sung to the tune of Felix the Cat, Winnie the Poo and Under my Paw (Rollilng Stones). I like it when Mom or Dad sing to me.

So that's on the schedule for tomorrow. The old 'teach an old broad how to IV a cat.' I figure, worse case scenario, Eldad from Hope for Paws probably knows how to do it and could come over and give Mom a one-on-one tutorial. I think I'd be OK with him. He did a pretty good job of cleaning up my stunt double at BlogPaws in SLC.

Here's a video showing how to give a cat subQ fluids. (A very calm, nice, easy going cat. I think he might be lacking a few IQ points personally, but that' just a guess.)  : P  Check it out:

Looks easy, right! Ha!

I'm very thankful for Dr White, but seven more so right now that her Mom, Ulla, pulled through and is recuperating after getting a bullet in the chest on the 4th of July - someone shot a bullet in the air and guess what? They freaking come DOWN people!! They had to crack her chest open and it nearly got her heart, but it didn't and she's a trooper and is healing back at home now, finally.

Dr. White's Mom, Ulla, on the mend. Isn't she beautiful?
On top of all that, Ulla's sweet 16 year old dog, Jack, crossed the RB just after she got home from the hospital - and this poor wonderful woman who raised such a fantastic daughter to care for pets like us (and another good one, too) can't even cry for her dog because it hurts her chest too much.

Let's all take a moment to consider how lucky we are that some freak thing hasn't pulled us out of the game unexpectedly - considering all the times that could have happened in our lives,  Give a high paw to my vet, Dr. White, and light a candle for a quick recovery for her Mom, and for her darling Jack, who's already been escorted over the Rainbow Bridge by Ambassador PepiSmartdog, but wish him well  anyway, until his family is reunited.

What are you grateful for today?

A Dog's Last Will & Testament

Audrey Hagar from Hope For Paws sent an email with the prose below, saying she'd received it as a text from her grandpa's iPhone! Simply wonderful.

I wrote up this post, but then decided to re-write it as "A Cat's Last Will & Testament." When I did that, I accidentally erased this one, so this is my meager attempt at rebuilding the post. Apologies.

Mom's first and only dog Marrakesh
A border collie. He lived to be 17.

A DOG'S LAST WILL & TESTAMENT
Before humans die, they write their Last Will & Testament, give their home and all they have to those they leave behind. If, with my paws, I could do the same, This is what I'd ask . . .

To a poor and lonely stray I'd give:
* My happy home.* My bowl & cozy bed, soft pillows and all my toys.
* The lap, which I loved so much
* The hand that stroked my fur & the sweet voice which spoke my name.

I'd will to the sad, scared shelter dog, the place I had in my human's loving heart, of which there seemed no bounds.

So when I die, please do not say, "I will never have a pet again, for the loss and pain is more than I can stand."

Instead, go find and unloved dog . . . one whose life has held no joy or hope and give My place to him.

This is the one thing I can give . . .

. . .The love I left behind.
