The "Hi, My Name Is" Award!

Hey! Check this out!
I just received this cool new Award from Friends Furever
They got it from my friend Pandafur,
who got it from my doppleganger,
 Inigo Flufflebum,  who created it!

It's called the "Hi, my name is" award!

Here are the rules:

This award must
be given to two blogs that you have not visited before. Once you've found two new blogs, you need to post in their comments:

(1) A big hello and something that you like about their blog
(2) That they've won this award from your blog
(3) A link back to your blog so they can collect the award and pass it along to two bloggers, who will then pass it along to two bloggers, etc., etc.

So, I'm off to discover two new blogs... BRB!
ॐ ॐ ॐ ॐ ॐ ॐ ॐ ॐ ॐ ॐ ॐ ॐ ॐ ॐ ॐ ॐ
OK, I'm back! I wandered around the internet and found this really cool, really BIG cat named Fat Eric. He lives with his human servants in a place called Walthamstow, London - where it snows!
Isn't he gorgeous!? And look, he has a beauty mark on his cheek. FYI Eric, I'm a boy and an engaged one at that, but I can appreciate a handsome cat.
Click here to go to Eric's blog:
Here's a "Hi, my name is" Award for you, Eric!

Ok, Now I'm off to find another blog... BRB!

ॐ ॐ ॐ ॐ ॐ ॐ ॐ ॐ ॐ ॐ ॐ ॐ ॐ ॐ ॐ ॐ ॐ
Wow, OK, here's another great blog!
Allow me to introduce you to Amber-Mae.
She's a big beautiful pedigree golden retriever who lives in Malaysia. She has famous ancestors and tons of awards and trophies and ribbons - real ones - for obedience, tricks
and even dog dancing!
On her blog you can click through to another page about her puppies and follow them from the minute they were born.

Click here to go to Amber-Mae's blog:

Here's a "Hi, my name is" Award for you, Amber-Mae!

Now you and Fat Eric need to find two new blogs
and pass this award along to them!
 Have fun!

Love,

Poppy the Springer Spaniel Wins Quadathlon! (or she deserves to...)

Poppy the Springer Spaniel was out for a walk on Valentine's Day when she saw a seagull. While we all know how tempting that is, when humans are yelling STOP! STOP! NO! POPPY! COME BACK!, it's generally a good idea to stop whatever you're doing. It's usually for your own good in the long run.

In this case, Poppy had taken off like a bullet chasing said seagull and chased it right off the edge of the Seven Sisters' view point at Seaford in East Sussex - a sheer 300' cliff over a stony beach.

To her credit, Poppy was hauling ass and flew so far out that he missed the rocks and belly flopped into the the English Channel. She then dog paddled (barking) back to the small bit of shore, where she was rescued by the RNLI (coast guard), which happened to be nearby doing exercises when alerted by telephone of the situation.

Poppy was rescued by lifeboat, cold and shivering, with a collapsed lung, but is expected to make a full recovery.

Surely she should be offered some sort of honorary Quadathlon Olympic medal for this, albeit stupid, feat: Running, long jump, diving and swimming!

See the RNLI rescue footage via www.abcnews.go.com here.

I especially like the rescuer's comments to Poppy (in a lovely English accent): "Come here. Hello lovely. Hello... It's OK. Nice and warm. Good girl. Good girl!"

Note to humans:
Dogs should be kept on a leash - especially near gigantic sheer cliffs!

Thank God it's Friday and time to board the Friday Ark. All aboard.... HERE!

S0... We're all enjoying the Winter Olympics, even down here in sunny southern California. I especially like hearing Mom screaming every time that Shaun White guy is on the TV. I come running out, assuming the Lakers are on, but no - it's some red-headed kid on a snowboard and she's all excited, then I get all excited, and she's yelling and I'm meowing and before you know it, we both running around the living room, my pants fall off and - It's PANDEMONIUM! SHAUN WHITE!!!WOOoooOOOOHoooOO!!!

Check out my music player above,
loaded with songs from Shaun White's playlist!

There are some Animal Olympic Events I know of too,
including three that I'm involved in...

The Teddy Olympics were last weekend where my pretend little sis Princess Gwenie and I performed this flawless ice skating routine (If I do say so myself). Unfortunately, I think we were at the wrong arena and I don't know if we actually qualified. Isn't that just the way? They're announcing the medalists this weekend.

Update: February 21, 2010: Nope, we didn't qualify, but the winners were posted today (Sunday) and you can see them all here. Great job everyone!!

is hosting the the First Annual Cat-Olympics Strong Cat Competition.
My entry is below:
The object of this competition is to knock something heavy off of something else. I present for your consideration: A gigantic Stephen King book called The Stand. Mom's been reading it for years and she's only up to page 292. There are 1153 pages! And it weighs four pounds!
This is me getting psyched for this demonstration of brute force and masculinity (@Jazzydacat) - it's all about mind over matter.
Check out my focus and concentration...
And..... the PUSH!!  BAM!!!
That's right. Uh-huh...
Four pounds of Stephen Motherduckin' King on da floor!!
Yeah, baby.

And here I am posing for the press.
I am not even lying when I tell you, I didn't even break a sweat.
Just sayin'...

Go ahead and check out the other competitors at the Naughty Kitty Club, but I think I've got this one wrapped up.
=^..^=

Finally, this weekend there's the Anipal Winter Olympics
A 24 hour virtual pawty on twitter beginning at 7pm on February 24,
organized by @frugaldougal.

Dougal hosts these Pawpawties, raising money for a different Animal Charity every month. They've raised $23,230 since March, 2009!
This month the money raised by tips to the Barktenders and DJs will go to The Pet Samaritan Fund in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA.

Dougal and his Anipal friends really know how to throw it down. You can always be assured there'll be great music, an open bar, awesome snacks and prizes - and security so things don't get out of control!   Come join the fun and meet new friends - but make sure you are properly dressed for cold conditions and ready to pawty!!
For more information on PawPawties, click here.
I'll see you there!

The Great Backyard Bird Count: February 12-15

Yes, Yes, Yes! The 13th Great Backyard Bird Count is almost here! You know, there are few things in life a cat enjoys more than watching birds and once a year we can do what we do best AND take part in a national scientific project. We're Doctors of Birdology!

The BGGC happens once a year, when tens of thousands of bird watchers of all ages create a snapshot of where the birds are across the U.S. & Canada. It's a four day event - this year from February 12 - 15, 2010.
Acorn Woodpecker, AZ

All you have to do to participate is spend at least 15 minutes on one or more of the four days counting birds anywhere you like, then report your results to www.birdcount.org by March 1, 2010. You can count birds from your window, balcony or backyard, from a park, a lake, a river or the ocean, from a bus stop or an office or anywhere at all.

Once you've submitted your bird sightings checklist, you can download a certificate in recognition of your great work counting birds for the Great Backyard Bird Count! (Suitable for framing!)   =^..^=

In 2009, counters reported 11,550,200 individual birds of 619 species! See last year's results from your state or province here.

White-Throated Sparrow, NC

There's also a photo contest. You can photograph the birds you see during the GBBC and send them in to be shared and judged in a variety of categories. Click here to see the other 2009 winning photographs. Prizes are here.

Purrs for Peace

Confucious Cat (@confuciuscat on twitter) has been organizing Purrs for Peace for 35 weeks straight and it's going strong. Each week focuses on a particular cause to meditate on to alleviate world suffering. Please join us!

May all that have life be delivered from suffering.  Buddha

This week's issue is the Canadian seal hunts, which begin on February 8th.

This hits home with my mom because when she was 13 she saw an article in Life Magazine with color photos of the clubbing of baby harp seals for their fur with their mothers looking on, licking the skinned, dying pups. She pasted the photos onto a petition and circulated it around her neighborhood and her school. She was sent home from school because that wasn't permitted on school grounds but she did get hundreds of signatures and sent them to the President. That was the beginning of her animal rights activism.

There is lots of information about the Canadian Seal Hunt and Purrs for Peace at Confucius Cat's Blog.

Week 35 of Purrs 4 Peace details are as follows (reprinted from Confucius Cat's Blog):
  • Week thirty-five’s appointed time is Sunday, February 7, 2010.
  • Participants should purr for three minutes commencing at 3 p.m. EST (U.S.) which is 8:00 p.m. (20:00 hrs.) BST in the U.K.
  • The cat’s human staff should assist their cats with the project by stroking and nuzzling the cat at the appointed time.
  • Please post your cat name and the country you purr in at www.confuciuscat.blogspot.com as a COMMENT if you are participating in this historic project. (posting a link to your own website-if you have one-is encouraged.) Or let me know by message on twitter or facebook.
  • Posting purrs on facebook ( Acolytes of Confucius Cat or as friend to Alley Mason) and twitter (@ConfuciusCat) is encouraged, since it inspires purring in others, but not required. On twitter please use #purrs4peace in your tweets.

THe Honest Scrap Award!

WoooHooo!!! Woot! Woot!
Yes, It's true! I have been awarded the esteemed

Honest Scrap Award by the lovely Windsor's Magic Gold Dust, aka Miss Dolly @flicka42.
Thank you so much for this great honor!

There are apparently two parts to this Award process: First, to share ten things about myself that the average bear might not know, and second, to present the Award to 10 bloggers I admire and ask them to follow suit.

Ok, well, here goes:
  1. I really do live on Hollywood Blvd., a few blocks from the Kodak, Chinese, and El Capitan Theatres, and Hollywood & Highland.
  2. I fell out of an 80' palm tree in 1995. The resulting nerve damage didn't show up until 3 years ago, but since then I've been continence challenged, so I wear pants.
  3. Sometimes my pants fall off and I run around the house yelling "Naked kitty! Naked kitty!' and they chase me back into my bathroom.
  4. @jazzydacat is my pretend fiance, though we haven't set a date. Her mom's crazy.
  5. @princessgwenie is my pretend little sister, even though she's a dog.  Her mom's crazy.
  6. I'm extremely articulate and have a huge vocabulary. I talk a lot.
  7. Wynnie is my common law wife, who thinks she took my position as Top Cat in our house after I was.. stricken. I show her I'm still the boss every so often and she submits immediately. I let her play dominant cat though sometimes cause she likes it. You know... women.
  8. My favorite thing is to drink water from the bathtub faucet. I just can't get enough.
  9. I like Bonito Flakes. Send me more, NipandBones.com!
  10. I've made more wonderful Anipal friends on twitter than I can count, and I'm very grateful for every one of them.
Now to the best part, it is my great pleasure to present the

Honest Scrap Award to the following wonderful bloggers:
  1. @dunkin_the_cat for A Cat's Life
  2. @grrlysquirrel for Adventures of Grrlysquirrel
  3. @snowydaze for A Cat's View of Life
  4. @kittehboi for Call Me the Breeze
  5. @mattiedog for A Little Dog Making A Big Impact in This World
  6. @babypatches for Confessions of the Plume: A Turkish Angora Tale
  7. @Quadpawd for Cats Who Twitter
  8. @sanjeethecat for House of the (Mostly) Black Cats
  9. @Dogstoyevsky for Life Without Borders (As If!)
  10. @mulder_cat for Mulder the X-Kitteh
 I love you guys!!
And now you're Honestly Scrappy, too!
You're it!

 =^..^=  =^..^=  =^..^=  =^..^=  =^..^=  =^..^=  =^..^=  =^..^=

!! REVISION !!

Because two of my Awardees were so popular that
they received 2 Honest Scrap Awards on the same day,
I'm going to give two more:
  1. @MizzBassie for pure grace & for Silken Paw
  2. @bizbeekitty for Come Along and Run Wild With My Imagination

NOW YOU'RE BOTH HONEST & SCRAPPY TOO!
CONGRATULATIONS!
